\u00a0 This hotel was built in the 18th century and was the private home of Mr. Francisque-Gay, a man of great moral standing and courage. He was a publisher and during World War II his publishing house was at the very center of the resistance against the Nazis. Mr. Francisque-Gay was a close acquaintance of General de Gaulle, a politician and an Ambassador to Canada. His house is now a hotel with 26 rooms on three floors with an elevator.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 As you cross the threshold of the Relais Saint Sulpice you will discover: \u2022 Collections of curios, artifacts and objects from Africa; \u2022 A 18th century ceramic wood burning stove that originates from Lorraine in Eastern France and was converted to electricity by Mr. Spatara, a master craftsman from Alsace; \u2022 A harmonious mix of objects and furniture from the Empire and Art Nouveau eras (including the reprinting of a Viennese fabric by Joseph Hoffmann); \u2022 Lithographs by De Rougemont, and published by Gallery Maeght, and engravings by Roberts from an earlier time; \u2022 A \u201cJapanese Garden\u201d hand printed by Zuber \u2013 the wallpaper and fabrics manufacturer established in 1797 and whose collection of traditional sculpted woodblocks have been classified as \u2018an historical monument\u2019.
